Problem-Solution Essay.

Woman needs our help.

Violence against women is one of the oldest problems in the history that yet is present in our society. Every day injustices are frequently committed against them and these do not seem to have any solution. This type of problems make women’s role inside the family and the society less important than men.
First of all, gender inequality is one of the principal problems in some countries, especially in Latin America. It would be a good solution that the governments of these mentioned countries support more projects like UNIFEM (Fund of Development of The United Nations for the Woman) are developing. This year, UNIFEM is doing a summons to contracting an institution - organization that realizes an "Investigation on gender violence towards the girls, teenagers and women from the vision of the diversity". If this type of summons had a better support of the governments and of the private company, we could have better relations inside and outside of the family.
Secondly, this gender inequality generates an increase of domestic violence. According to UNIFEM's surveys, one of the best solutions in this type of problems is to foment the communication inside the family nucleus in order to be the dialog the best way of solving the differences. In this way, the women affected by violence will have a different end, because they have to bear the blows of their husbands and their children will grow with a better life.
Finally, lamentably, one of the worst consequences of violence against women is sexual abuse. This problem can lead even to the death because in a big number, the abuses are committing without protection, which can spread the contagion of the AIDS. The best way of offsetting the abuses and the reduction of the women infected by the virus, is that they have to be strong to sue the persons who take unfair advantage. Also, the habit will be created in the society of not guarding silence after these abuses.
Taking everything into account, I think that these problems are more frequent than seems, but that have not taken serious measurements to face them. However, as I showed it, there exist many solutions that can help to create a new thought towards women, that men have to know the importance that they represent for them and, at the same time, to create a culture of respect in women.

Internet Vs Books.
Nowadays, modern technology has had development because a lot of people can use resources like Internet so that they find information easier. However, we think that this media will never replace the books and their information.
To begin with, Internet shows a lot of information but some of this information is not really trustable like books information. For instance, wikipedia.com, which is one of the most visited information sites of the Internet and It`s possible to search good ideas there, however, a big part of these ideas are posted by people don`t have authority about the topic.
Secondly, Internet does not have a legal regulation, It sees to us that whoever can use this media in order to put wrong information. Therefore, It could be said that book (that has to pass to a review by publishing house) is better to find good information about whatever we want.
On the other hand, We parcially agree with Internet because is an interesting tool in some cases. For example, to communicate with our friends or our family, nonetheless, Internet has to wait a few years in order to improve their security.
Taking everything into account, We think that all that Internet offers a good service, but books are better source to find information because has a specific things. To sum up, Internet can not replace book in a long time.

World Problem Awareness Video Task 2

Short Background to the Problem.
One of the principal cuasas of the violence against the women is that culturally it is believed that the woman belongs lower than the man. Another reason is small communication that exists inside the homes: the families every time speak less and do not use the dialog as mechanism to solve his problems. Finally, in the affected women there has not been created a conscience to inform her aggressors to the police yet, which prevents the performance of the law in order to above mentioned cases.

World Problem Awareness Video Task 1.

Ending Violence Against Women
Fighting gender-based violence is a major concern for UNIFEM, because violence against women is a universal problem and one of the most widespread violations of human rights. One in three women will suffer some form of violence in her lifetime, becoming part of an epidemic that devastates lives, fractures communities and stalls development. Despite some progress on this issue over the past decade, its horrendous scale remains mostly unacknowledged. New dimensions include the global trafficking of women and girls.

UNIFEM Responds: Strategies That Make a Difference.

UNIFEM works on several fronts to interrupt the cycle of violence against women, with an overall objective of linking violence to the source that feeds it: gender inequality. UNIFEM multiplies the power of its groundbreaking strategies through advocacy campaigns and close partnerships with governments, women’s groups and other branches of the UN system.
Protective laws and national actions: In a number of countries, UNIFEM works with its partners on establishing legal frameworks to combat violence. Laws alone, however comprehensive they may be, must be followed by plans for specific national actions, which is why UNIFEM is active on this end as well.

Measuring the problem: UNIFEM has been at the forefront of supporting the collection of data and research on violence against women. Much of this information would otherwise not exist, making it impossible to understand the scope of the problem, or devise the means to stop it.
Prevention: Strategies to stop violence before it starts are essential, but lack resources and visibility. UNIFEM supports prevention initiatives from the local to the international level, including in conflict and post-conflict situations, where violence against women is prevalent and horrific.

Support for women’s organizations: Women’s organizations have developed some of the most creative and effective responses to violence, often in societies where the problem is otherwise largely ignored. UNIFEM helps draw attention and resources to these efforts, and brings the voices of activists together across countries and onto the international stage.

The Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women: Housed within UNIFEM, the Trust Fund offer grants to innovative projects to prevent violence that are run by community, national and regional organizations. With relatively modest sums, grantees have passed new laws, trained police, and involved men and boys in stopping violence. The Trust Fund also collects and shares information about effective strategies that can be replicated or implemented on a larger scale.

Independent Work No. 13 Soap Opera Review.

Ugly betty was a soap opera written by Fernando Gaitán and lead by Ana María Orozco and Jorge Enrique Abello. This program won three India Catalina awards in 2002 for best principal actor, best principal actress and best direction.

Ugly betty is teh story of an inteligent woman that works in company called “ecomoda”. The plot of this soap opera is that Betty is in love with Armando (her boss), but he, and everybody, think that Betty is so ugly so no much people like her. But then, after a lot of things that happen in the story, Armando starts to see Betty with another eyes.

This is a typical comedy where we can find the different personalities that colombian people have. Is a funny story and at the begining we can know what the end is going to be, but the development of the plot makes the story really interesting.

The only recomendation that I have is just that everybody has to see it because ugly betty is one of the best soap opera that I have never seen. Also this story is not only produced in Colombia, you can find it in USA, Spain and Russia too.
